Every year, a city in Gran Canaria is transformed into a paradise for gourmets. The European Cheese Fair (Feria Europea del Queso) , which will take place on March 1st and 2nd in 2025 in the Plaza de San Roque in Firgas, brings together cheese producers, experts and connoisseurs from all over Europe. The venue changes: in previous years, the fair has taken place in Santa María de Guía, among other places.
Diversity and tradition united
The fair is one of the most important events for cheese lovers in the Canary Islands and offers an impressive selection of cheeses from the region, mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, Italy and Portugal. The focus was particularly on the award-winning Canarian cheeses such as Queso Palmero, Queso Majorero and Queso de Flor y Media Flor de Guía , which are known for their unique flavours and traditional production.
A meeting place for gourmets
During the two-day event, visitors had the opportunity not only to taste and buy the best cheeses, but also to take part in tastings, workshops and demonstrations. The fair also served as a platform for exchange between the agricultural sector and tourism to showcase the island's culinary diversity.
Other cheese events on Gran Canaria
In addition to the Feria Europea del Queso, there are other events that celebrate the Canarian cheese tradition. For example, every year on the first Sunday in May there is a cheese festival in Pago de Montaña Alta , a town in Santa María de Guía. Other regions, including Gáldar, also regularly hold local cheese events that highlight the diversity of the island.
